Volunteer Activities
PAL Reading Services needs your help. We are looking for people with excellent literacy skills to volunteer at least 2 hours per week in our office at 27 Carlton Street, Suite 504. Our greatest need is for volunteer readers.
These are the types of things we are asked to record:
- College & university level journal articles for students
- Self-help publications
- Health publications
- General Interest publications
- Gay publications
If you have excellent literacy skills and computer skills, a clear reading voice, and can record text accurately, you can help in several ways:
- Record material for output to CDs
- Edit the material for audio recording
- Monitor the recordings of others & document any errors
Please contact us by email at pal.read@bellnet.ca or telephone at 416-340-7828 if you would like to audition for a volunteer position. We will send you a 35-word vocabulary list to give you an idea of the literacy level required to do the recordings. If you are still interested, contact us to book an audition that will take about 45 minutes. Auditions are held from 10:30 am to 5:30 pm on Monday and Tuesday and from 10:30 am to 4:00 on Wednesday to Friday.
